Filming is officially underway on Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in New York City. Unlike every other film in the franchise to-date, this one will be filmed entirely in the Big Apple and New York state.
Along with confirming that production is underway, Columbia Pictures released the film’s official synopsis and cast list earlier today. Unfortunately the synopsis, seen below, tells us absolutely nothing about the film’s plot other than what we already know or what can be safely assumed.
The cast list, however, is worth discussing. Starring in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 are Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, and Sally Field.
Every one of those names has been previously attached to the project or confirmed except for Colm Feore. He’s not a household name but you would recognize him in genre roles such as King Laufey from Thor, Lord Marshal from The Chronicles of Riddick, and President Richard Adar from Battlestar Galactica.
Given Feore’s age (54) and his place amongst the film’s stars, the easy choice for his character is that of Norman Osborn. We already know Dane DeHaan is onboard as Harry Osborn, Norman’s son, and it has been rumored that Norman played a role in Peter Parker’s youth that wasn’t explored in the first film. Now look at the synopsis for The Amazing Spider-Man 2:
In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.
It’s not much of a stretch to imagine those new clues that Peter discovers will lead to Norman Osborn, and someone Harry will get caught up in the mess.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in 2D and 3D on May 2, 1014.
