The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Picks Up Writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Picks Up Writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto OrciSony Pictures is wasting no time moving forward on The Amazing Spider-Man 2, bringing in the Bad Robot crew for a script re-write and producer duties prior to the first film’s release.

Variety is reporting that Sony has snagged Star Trek scribes Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to work on James Vanderbilt’s first draft of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and get it ready for production in early 2013. The duo will also executive produce the film, much like they provided producing duties on J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek and Star Trek 2, amongst other films.

In a statement released by the studio, Orci and Kurtzman professed their fanboy love for Spider-Man and consider the assignment to be their “Holy Grail.” They are excited about the new direction for the webslinger and cannot wait to help continue Peter Parker’s superhero story into a second film.

The Amazing Spider-Man is directed by Marc Webb and stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and serves as a franchise reboot after the conclusion of the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy. In the film, Peter discovers mysteries about his parents’ past and ultimately must help defeat a monster he helped create, The Lizard.

The Amazing Spider-Man swings into theaters in 3D on July 3, 2012. In another show of confidence, Sony has locked in the sequel for a May 2, 2014 release.
