To date the only imagery officially released from the seventh Potter film has come from a pair of still shots and four seconds of footage that aired during a piece on Entertainment Tonight Canada featuring Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson in the woods along with Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour enjoying a dance at their wedding. Now we’ve learned, and can get a sneak peek at, new footage set to officially arrive next Tuesday.
The December 8 Blu-ray Disc and DVD release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will offer the world of Muggles a first extended look at Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I. The exclusive extra features a short but sweet interview with producer David Heyman as well as director David Yates, interspersed with behind-the-scenes footage. The majority of these shots are fairly random scenes; however, this is followed up by a nice little 56-second teaser trailer. Potter fans will gobble this teaser up and likely watch it dozens of times as I already have.
As you can see below (while it lasts), the atmosphere of the teaser is dark and gritty. We’re introduced to the Deathly Hallows by master wand maker Ollivander, and the seeming quest Harry, Ron and Hermione take up to discover what and where they are, or if they even exist beyond myth. Short glimpses of the Weasly wedding, as well as the goblin Griphook are shown, with Hogwarts nowhere to be seen.
If you’ve read the books, you already know that a significant portion of Deathly Hallows takes place outside the castle walls. Harry and his loyal friends look haggard, desperate, bloodied and determined. We see are heroes fighting for survival in foreboding forests, to the streets of London hiding amongst the Muggles.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is currently in production to be released as two films with the first due in November, 2010, and second coming in July, 2011.
