More than 5,000 Twitterers sent Syfy their suggestions for the Sharknado sequel name as prompted by the cable network. The winning one is rather subdued and boring compared to the premise behind the social media phenomenon.
From this day forward, Sharknado 2 will carry the official name of Sharknado 2: The Second One. Yeah, it’s a boring name, but somehow its simplicity and bluntness is appropriate for a film franchise featuring sharks flying about in tornadoes.
“Since Twitter played such a huge role in the success of the original movie, we wanted to use that platform to ask our fans to name Sharknado 2,” said Syfy executive vice president of programming Thomas Vitale to EW. “This response is another reminder of how Sharknado has become a pop culture phenomenon. We want to thank all our viewers for their wonderful contributions to keeping up the shark-mentum.”
Now that Sharknado 2 has a name and a setting in New York City, attention can turn to who will show up in the sequel. Tara Reid’s presence has been a question mark after the actress sent mixed signals about her availability and willingness to appear. After watching the Shark After Dark interview below, how can anyone not want her taking on flying sharks in the Big Apple?
Expect Sharknado 2: The Second One to spin onto Syfy sometime in 2014.
