M. Night Shyamalan is headed to the small screen and teaming up with Buffy the Vampire Slayer scribe Marti Noxon in one of two new projects Syfy has added to its plate.
The Shyamalan and Noxon collaboration is called Proof and revolves around the discovery for life after death. Spearheading the search is a billionaire tech genius that offers a massive reward to anyone who can bring him proof of the seemingly unobtainable after his parents are killed in a car accident (or are they?). Considering Shyamalan is involved and the description sounds just like one of his films, expect some sort of genius or utterly laughable twist to be involved.
Shymalan is no stranger to the big screen with hits like The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, and more recent misfires like The Happening and The Last Airbender. His latest feature project, After Earth, stands a better chance of commercial success with Will Smith and his son, Jaden, sure to bring in some extra bucks on starpower alone.
Noxon and Shyamalan will co-write the Proof pilot with Shyamalan expected – though unconfirmed – to handle directorial duties. The project marks Shyamalan’s first foray into scripted television.
The other Syfy project is a 90-minute pilot for High Moon from Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies), per Deadline. Based on the young adult novel The Lotus Caves by John Christopher, High Moon is set in the future where humans have taken to the moon in search of new resources, but instead find new life forms during their mining operations. Production is expected to kick off this fall.
Syfy has not announced a start date for Proof considering M. Night Shyamalan and Marti Noxon have yet to pen the pilot.
