Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has released the official back cover art for their upcoming two-disc unrated Superbad Blu-ray Disc release. Normally this news is hardly worthy of publication as the back cover art specs are identical to what’s printed in a press release. Superbad is anything but a normal release for Sony, and this cover reveals a small and welcome surprise.
According to the back cover, Superbad will include both PCM 5.1 lossless and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless audio options. PCM was assumed, but we’re a bit surprised by the appearance of Dolby TrueHD. Sony didn’t have to include both lossless audio formats, but by doing so, they’re maxing the high-def experience on disc one while relegating supplementals to disc two.
If Superbad’s video is a home run with the additional lossless audio track, can we expect more two-disc releases from them – or other studios – when big new theatrical hits hit high-def home video? We’ll have to wait and see.
