The big Star Wars Blu-ray reveal as part of “May The 4th Be With You” is day well underway with a press release confirming the September 16 release date in North America, announcing a September 12 release date in other territories, and providing a complete look at the bonus features that will span the 9-disc Complete Saga Blu-ray set.
LucasFilm had said in past interviews that the original unaltered cuts of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi would not be included in the Blu-ray sets. True to their word, all three original trilogy films are being presented on Blu-ray in their special edition incarnations. This leaves the door open for another Blu-ray set in the future with the original trilogy cuts intact, as if that should come as a surprise to anyone.
Each of the six Star Wars films fill up their own Blu-ray Discs with audio commentaries are the only inclusive extras. The bulk of bonus features are presented on discs 7 through 9 with new material (aside from the deleted scenes which are not spelled out) noted.
From a supplements perspective, Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray won’t be competing with The Lord of the Rings. There looks to be enough old and new stuff to satisfy most.
Below the bonus features are a first look at the Blu-ray cover art for the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, Original Trilogy and Complete Saga Blu-ray sets, as well as a new lightsaber-themed Blu-ray logo that will appear on the discs when booting them up.
