Console gamers will soon get the chance to go boldly where no man has gone before with confirmation from Cryptic Studios this morning that Star Trek online is coming to (presumably) Xbox 360 and PS3 in addition to the PC.
The massively multiplayer online game has been sought after by Trek fans for years as it will allow them to explore every inch of the Star Trek universe.
The game takes place in early 25th century where “shifting alliances and new discoveries” are commonplace. This theme plays into the core gameplay as players will discover new things in the Star Trek universe they never knew existed.
Star Trek Online is played from either the perspective of a Federation Captain or Klingon Warrior aboard a fully customizable ship with manageable crew. You’ll be able to visit planets, moons and even board other ships.
The first gameplay footage will be revealed at the annual Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas on Sunday, August 10, 2008.
