Star Trek Into Darkness 2013 Super Bowl Commercial Plunges Enterprise

Star Trek Into Darkness 2013 Super Bowl Commercial Plunges EnterpriseNew Star Trek Into Darkness footage debuted in the form of a Super Bowl commercial that aired during the big game’s pre-game show.

The spot focuses on Benedict Cumberbatch as the film’s still unnamed villain. He’s been captured and is being questioned by Kirk (Chris Pine) who also has no idea who the guy is. When asked, Cumberbatch responds in an evil voice with, “I am better than you.”

Earth takes a beating in the new footage including an explosion at presumably Starfleet headquarters and the starship from the first trailer plunging into the San Francisco Bay and ultimately the city. A new shot of a ravaged Enterprise plunging through the atmosphere into earth suggests that it’s the same ship that will crash into San Francisco. If so, we could be looking at a scenario where the Enterprise will be reborn at the end of the movie with some potential aesthetic tweaks.

Star Trek Into Darkness is directed by J.J. Abrams and stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Benedict Cumberbatch and Peter Weller, and will fly into theaters on May 17, 2013.
