‘Spider-Man’ Swings Onto Blu-ray Disc; Full Disc Details

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced ‘Spider-Man 3’ will be available on Blu-ray Disc October 30, day-and-date with the standard DVD debut. In addition, ‘Spider-Man,’ ‘Spider-Man 2,’ ‘Spider-Man 2.1’ and ‘Spider-Man 3’ will be available in a 3-disc ‘Spider-Man High Definition Trilogy’ collection.

‘Spider-Man 3’ will span two discs and be presented in widescreen 1080p video with Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and PCM 5.1 lossless audio options. Extra features will be presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, though the official Sony announcement did not state whether they would be in high definition or not (we assume they will). Disc one will feature Bloopers; Photo Galleries; Snow Patrol Music Video; Audio Commentary with Director Sam Raimi and Cast Members Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Thomas Haden Church, Topher Grace, and Bryce Dallas Howard; Audio Commentary with Producers Laura Ziskin, Avi Arad and Grant Curtis, Editor Bob Murawski and Special Effects Supervisor Scott Stokdyk; and Bonus Previews.

Disc two will include 11 featurettes: Grains of Sand – Building Sandman; Re-Imagining the Goblin; Covered in Black ” Creating Venom; Hanging On”Gwen Stacy and the Collapsing Floor; Fighting, Flying & Driving ” The Stunts ; Tangled Web: The Love Triangles of Spider-Man 3; Wall Of Water; On Location Cleveland ” The Chase on Euclid Avenue; On Location New York ”From Rooftops to Backstreets; The Science of Sound; and Inside The Editing Room. It will also include Theatrical TV Spots From Around the World.

Still unknown at this time is what treatment Sony is giving the first two Spider-Man films. Will they include Dolby TrueHD options? Which extras from the standard DVD versions will be ported over? Will the extras be in HD? We simply don’t know yet.

The ‘Spider-Man 3’ two-disc release will carry an SRP of $49.95, while ‘Spider-Man High Definition Trilogy’ will come in much higher at $98.95. Check back regularly as we track down the much-anticipated cover art for these releases.
