Sony’s First BD-Live Blu-ray Titles to Support PS3 Update

Yesterday, Sony Computer Entertainment announced an upcoming firmware upgrade to Playstation 3 would introduce Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0 and BD-Live capabilities to the console. The update, due before the end of this month, will make PS3 the first BD-Live compatible Blu-ray player on the market.

While this is fantastic news for the growth of Blu-ray, what good is the update *now* if there are no BD-Live titles to take advantage of it?

Rest assured Sony is on the case. Their home video arm is stepping up to the plate by making subtle adjustments to a pair of April 8 titles to include BD-Live features.

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story and The 6th Day will include trailers and a BD-Live FAQ that will only be accessible via a BD-Live download.

In addition, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story will include three mini-featurettes that star Bill Hader as Derek Stone, a historian and expert “Coxologist.” These featurettes will also only be available as a BD-Live download.

It will obviously take some time before “meatier” BD-Live applications make their way onto Blu-ray Discs. Until then, rest assured you’ll have the means to test out the functionality.
