Sony Double-Dips Casino Royale on Blu-ray

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced a new two-disc collector’s edition of Casino Royale will be released on October 21 to coincide with the release of Quantum of Solace in theaters.

This release marks the second appearance of Casino Royale on Blu-ray in less than two years. The first release scored an overall 8.4 here at HDR (read our review).

One of Shawn’s issues with the first release was “underwhelming” supplemental features that he scored a paltry 6.0. This new two-disc collector’s edition aims to improve upon the first with seven hours worth of material compared to 90 minutes. The full list of features is as follows.

  • e-Movie Cash for Quantum of Solace
  • The Road to Casino Royale
  • Crew Commentary
  • Second Commentary
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Paying Taxes
  • Rescue & Recovery
  • Old Boyfriend?
  • James Bond in the Bahamas
  • The Art of the Freerun
  • Death in Venice
  • Catching a Plane: From Storyboard to Screen
  • Filmmaker Profiles

  • Ian Fleming: The Secret Road to Paradise
  • Becoming Bond documentary
  • James Bond: For Real Documentary
  • Bond Girls are Forever (2006)
  • Chris Cornell “You Know My Name” Music Video

Sony will likely utilize the same 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded transfer and switch the audio from lossless 5.1 PCM uncompressed audio to 5.1 Dolby TrueHD lossless audio.

Casino Royale: Collector’s Edition on Blu-ray will carry an SRP of $38.96. Keep your eyes fixed at HDR for the addition of high resolution cover art and pre-order information.
