Update (July 17, 2012): Snow White and the Huntsman has been given a September 11, 2012 release date per the listing at Amazon.com. We’re still waiting for Universal’s official announcement with all the disc content.
Original article (June 24, 2012): Online retailer Amazon.com has begun taking early pre-orders for Universal and director Rupert Sanders’ dark Snow White tale, Snow White and the Huntsman, starring Kristen Stewart (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2), Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers) and Charlize Theron (Prometheus).
It looks like Universal will follow their typical Blu-ray new theatrical packaging for Snow White and the Huntsman by putting out a Blu-ray and DVD combo pack release. The set will also include a digital copy and UltraViolet copy.
As of now, Snow White and the Huntsman has already climbed to number 7 on Amazon’s Blu-ray bestsellers chart.
The earliest we would see Snow White and the Huntsman on Blu-ray would be September 3, the first Tuesday after it had been out theatrically for at least three months following its June 1 debut. There’s still no firm Blu-ray release date, cover art or specs yet, and I wouldn’t expect Universal to make any kind of announcement until July. Comic-Con in mid-July should provide a flurry of Blu-ray announcements, perhaps including Snow White and the Huntsman.
Click here to pre-order Snow White and the Huntsman on Blu-ray and DVD at Amazon.com. Only the $34.98 retail price is displaying at this time, but the price of pre-orders will automatically adjust down to under $30, most likely around $27, before the release.
