Activision has released the first screenshots for the 3DS version of Skylanders Swap Force, a completely different game than its console counterpart as the previous Skylanders games were.
Skylanders Swap Force for 3DS comes packaged with Rattle Shake, Free Ranger and Volcanic Eruptor, the latter of which is exclusive to the 3DS Starter Pack. The pack out is designed so that if someone were to buy the console and 3DS games, they would have a total of four Swap Force figures for a total of 16 character combinations accomplished via swapping.
As with its console partner, the 3DS version is fully backward compatible with all previously released Skylanders figures and their upgrades. In addition, all older Skylanders with a level cap of 15 now have a new raised level cap of 20.
It’s also important to note that for the first time in a Skylanders 3DS game, Swap Force will store Skylanders so you can switch between however many Skylanders you own and have connected via the Portal of Power rather than only two at a time. That’s a huge improvement that players have been begging to see materialize.

The story of Skylanders SWAP Force on Nintendo 3DS begins in Boomtown, home of Skylands’ favorite pilot, Flynn. As the town is celebrating Flynn as their hometown hero, a new villain known as Count Moneybone sneaks his way into Boomtown to kidnap Cali, long-time friend to Flynn and the Skylanders. Now it’s up to Portal Masters everywhere to assemble the Skylanders and SWAP Force to save Cali and defeat the evil Count Moneybone.
