Today during Nintendo’s Wii U event in New York City it was confirmed that Skylanders Giants would be coming to Wii U. We figured this already from various retailer listings and comments dropped at E3. What we didn’t figure is Toys For Bob is not handling the development duties.
The Wii U edition of Skylanders Giants is being developed by Vicarious Visions, the same folks behind the 3DS version of Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure. I know some of you were wondering why Vicarious Visions wasn’t working on the 3DS version of Skylanders Giants. Now you know.
What we don’t have right at this moment are details on how the Wii U GamePad will work with Skylanders Giants. You can probably safely guesstimate that picking locks, checking inventory of collected items and Skylanders, and that sort of thing will appear on the second screen.
Skylanders Giants will only be available as a Starter Pack package, unfortunately. If you already own Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure and a Portal of Power and want Giants on Wii U, expect to pay $15 more and get stuck with a second Portal of Power.
Skylanders Giants on Wii U is officially a launch window release (between November 18 and March 2013), however the appearance of box art this morning in my inbox tells me it will be out before Christmas. Check out the Wii U Skylanders Giants box art below (click to enlarge).
