Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Emily Mortimer, Michelle Williams, Max von Sydow and Jackie Earle Haley has been pushed back from its original October 2 release date all the way to February 19, 2010.
The Shutter Island trailer had been generating strong buzz and potential awards consideration. Forced with a difficult economic climate, Paramount was forced into the move which will push the film’s earnings into a different quarter which otherwise might have come up short on shareholders expectations.
Once the move was made, Twentieth Century Fox immediately slid Drew Barrymore’s Whip It into the October 2 slot where its only competition will be Disney and Pixar’s release of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in 3D.
