Showtime gave a strong vote of confidence to Homeland and Masters of Sex today by renewing both for an additional season before their respective current seasons hit the midway point.
Both pickups come after four of 12 episodes had aired in their current seasons. In the case of Homeland, the thriller is currently enjoying its third season. Masters of Sex is a brand new show that will be celebrating its sophomore run next year.
Through four episodes, Homeland is up a cool 26 percent over the same period through the show’s second season with 6.5 million viewers, which is after it had already caught on. Masters of Sex had found success with utilizing Homeland and its sizable audience as a lead-in to secure 5.4 million viewers per episode thus far. For comparison’s sake to illustrate how well Masters of Sex is performing, the highest a Homeland: Season 1 episode rated was 1.71 million total viewers.
Both Homeland and Masters of Sex have received 12-episode orders to match their current season runs. As with this year, the show’s will anchor Showtime’s Sunday evenings in the fall of 2014.
The fifth episodes of Homeland and Masters of Sex for their current seasons will premiere this upcoming Sunday.
