Earlier this evening, Yahoo! Movies debuted the first moving imagery from the Clash of the Titans remake starring Sam Worthington (Avatar, Terminator Salvation), Gemma Arterton, Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes in the form of a loud and brisk teaser trailer.
My initial reaction to catching the first glimpse of Medusa (from behind), Perseus, gigantic CGI scorpions and the rest of Titans’ iconic characters veers towards the negative. Not in the look of the film whose CGI creatures have been designed to retain some of the signature blocky designs of Harryhausen’s stop motion puppets from the original. But in Warner’s decision to recycle the marketing campaign from 300.
Though set in times many centuries ago, the Clash of the Titans trailer utilizes a guitar-driven modern heavy rock score. Music video-style quick editing is interrupted a couple times by framed slow motion shots. The presentation does not fit Clash of the Titans as we know it and I can only hope the actual film presents itself in a more “classic” light.
