See the GI Joe: Rise of Cobra Super Bowl Spot

Paramount shocked the Internet geek nation today by handing over the GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra first 30 seconds of footage to Superhero Hype! a full day ahead of airing during the Super Bowl.

Truth be told I’ve been skeptical of this film since the cast, crew and plot outlines began to take shape. Transformers had a decent amount of negativity built up before the first footage was released but nothing like what Stephen Sommers and his team have had to endure from fanboys over the last year.

Now that we have the first footage, heaving villainous cleavage and look at the special effects, my outlook remains pretty much where it was at prior to the footage. It looks like a neat futuristic military action film not meant to be taken seriously.

Fanboys need to accept the fact that like Transformers, the filmmakers have taken liberty with the 80s designs and modernized them. They’re also targeting the masses to recoup the enormous budget north of $150 million, not making a film designed to wink at longtime and aging Joe fans every other frame. While most adults who grew up with GI Joe would love to see a more serious edgy film, that simply cannot and will not happen.

GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra hit theaters on August 8. You can download and watch the 1080p high definition version over at Superhero Hype!.
