MTV has ordered up a pilot for Scream which, as the name suggests, is based on the Kevin Williamson film franchise. The cable network also renewed the reality hit Snooki & JWoww as well as ordered up a trio of new reality series.
News of potential development on a Scream television series at MTV dates back last year. The 18-34 skewed horror franchise has always seemed like a perfect fit for MTV, and with the network having already found horror success with the small screen adaptation of the 80s film Teen Wolf, the template is already in place to finally take a shot at Scream.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wes Craven is being courted to direct the Scream pilot. Craven directed all four of the Scream feature films so his taking the reigns of the potential series pilot is a natural coupling. If Scream gets picked up to series, it would appropriately join Teen Wolf and Awkward on the summer 2014 MTV programming schedule.
Snooki & JWoww continues to find success beyond Jersey Shore and scored a third season renewal. Joining the ongoing reality series will be newcomers Generation Cryo, Nurse Nation and The Hook Up, all having names that effectively describe what the show is about.
