Scooby-Doo Director to Tackle Smurfs

Columbia Pictures and Sony Animation have found their man to direct the diminutive Smurfs in their first feature film and he is no stranger to blending CGI creations with live actors and environments.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Raja Gosnell is the man chosen for the Smurf job. He is responsible for directing Scooby Doo!,Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, and Beverly Hills Chihuahua, should feel right at home ordering around his actors to act against invisible little blue people.

Producer Jordan Kerner confirmed the number of Smurf heroes in welcoming Raja to the team, “Our three-apple-high heroes are in good hands, and we feel absolutely positively Smurfy to be working with him.”

Those three heroes would be Papa Smurf, Smurfette, and…? Sorry, I’m not up on my Smurf rosters. It has been a long time.

The Smurfs movie is locked into a December 17, 2010 release in 2D and 3D versions.
