James Cameron’s next Avatar films have a start date to filming if Sam Worthington’s recent remarks are to be believed.
While being interviewed by Australian radio station NovaFM, Worthington dished that production on the next Avatar films will get underway by October 2014, or exactly one year from now. He claims the script(s) are pretty much complete and being polished right now, and all three sequels: Avatar 2, Avatar 3 and Avatar 4 will be filmed simultaneously.
The script polish is underway by the team of Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), as well as Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds) and Shane Salerno (Savages).
“We are going to start this time next year and we will do two, three and four,” Worthington said during the interview. “In one shot, we’ll do them simultaneously. I’ll be grateful if it finishes.”
Avatar 2 will arrive in theaters in December 2016, followed by the next two films at one-year intervals.
