Rumor: Oz The Great and Powerful Blu-ray Release Date

Rumor: Oz The Great and Powerful Blu-ray Release DateDisney and director Sam Raimi’s Oz The Great and Powerful starring James Franco, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz has been tearing up the box office to the tune of $179.3 million domestically and $351.8 million worldwide at the time of this writing. Much like Disney’s Alice in Wonderland with Johnny Depp, it will be a big deal when Oz is ready to make its home video debut on Blu-ray and DVD.

Thanks to tipster Sean, we were alerted to a retailer page for a Blu-ray and DVD combo pack of Oz The Great and Powerful that lists a Tuesday, June 11, 2013 release date. This would put Oz in stores just in time for Father’s Day that arrives the weekend after that Tuesday. In other words, the release date makes perfect logical marketing sense.

Not content with the listing, I did some additional digging and was able to confirm with an insider source that yes, Disney has currently penciled in June 11 to deliver Oz The Great and Powerful to home video. There’s always a chance the release date could shift between now and then if Disney finds a need to shuffle their plans. As far as today is concerned, June 11 is the only plan.

As with other 3D Disney films you can expect three different skus for Oz The Great and Powerful on Blu-ray: a Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD combo pack, a Blu-ray and DVD combo pack, and a standalone Blu-ray, each with digital copies.

I’ll have more to share about Disney’s plans for Oz The Great and Powerful on Blu-ray once we get closer to the official release date.
