Ronin Finally Gets its Blu-ray Day

One of the most frequently delayed Blu-ray Discs in the format’s relatively young existence hopes the third time is the charm.

MGM and Fox Home Entertainment have rolled out plans to release Ronin on Blu-ray Disc on February 24 after multiple release delays over the past two years.

Ronin had originally been planned for an early 2007 release before it vanished from MGMs release schedule. It then reappeared on retailer websites with a December 4, 2007 date and remained there until less than two months before the big day when it was pulled.

Ronin’s specs show how long the title has been sitting on the backburner. It will be presented with a now archaic HDMV MPEG-2 encode on a BD-25 disc. Fox has long since switched to using AVC MPEG-4 for high-def encodes. On the audio side Ronin will receive the Fox standard 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio treatment.

Ronin on Blu-ray will retail for $34.99. Check back regularly for pre-order information.
