‘Robocop’ Pulled From Sony Blu-ray Disc Schedule

I’ve just confirmed with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment that the Blu-ray Disc version of ‘Robocop,’ initially slated for June and then pushed back to August 15, has been removed from Sony’s release schedule entirely.

If you recall, publishing rights for MGM titles recently shifted from Sony to Twentieth Century Fox. This move affected the new version of ‘A Fish Called Wanda,’ but to date, had not affected any Blu-ray Disc titles. Now it has, and you can expect ‘Robocop’ to appear either in or shortly after the first wave of Fox Blu-ray Disc films arrives later this year.

Ironically, I was planning on publishing my ‘Robocop’ Blu-ray Disc review Monday morning. Per Sony’s request, this review has been permanently shelved. Fear not; those notes won’t go to waste. If this rescheduling turns into something more, however unlikely, you can bet there will be comparisons between the Sony and Fox versions when the time comes.
