Report: Sony Close to Hulu on PS3 Deal

There was a strong rumor in the weeks leading up to E3 that Microsoft was on the verge of reaching an agreement with Hulu to offer access to Hulu’s programming on Xbox 360 via a paid subscription model. E3 came and went, sweeping away the Hulu rumors with it.

Now Bloomberg has reignited the Hulu on gaming console rumor but makes no mention of Xbox 360 in their scoop. Per their insiders, Sony is the one in final negotiations with Hulu for a paid subscription service that would be accessible via PS3’s Playstation Network. Their unnamed sources claim an announcement could be made as early as next week.

Hulu is also rumored to be in discussions with CBS Corp., Viacom Inc. and Time Warner Inc. to include their programming in the subscription service. The more programming Hulu can offer, the less need a PS3 owner would have to purchase cable or satellite programming.

As for the deal with Microsoft and a Hulu subscription service on Xbox 360? Hulu seems content to follow in Netflix’s footsteps with cross-console support as that deal is still in discussions.
