Kristin Dos Santos over at E Online has reported receiving an exclusive tip that producers Mitch Hurwitz and Ron Howard have signed deals with Imagine and Fox Searchlight to make an Arrested Development feature-length film.
Other media outlets such as Variety are reporting negotiations are underway but nothing is signed and delivered. E Online thinks otherwise, so we’ll have to wait and see how the “scoop” shakes out.
What’s interesting about E’s report is one anonymous source quoted is an unnamed primary cast member. They chimed in with, “Yes, it’s a go. We’re all very excited. And it will happen with or without the holdout.”
The “holdout” mentioned refers to one cast member who is currently not signed on for the film. While E refuses to offer any hints as to who this might be, popular belief is Michael Cera is the holdout based on his rising status and previous interviews in which he’s stated wanting nothing to do with an Arrested Development film project.
At this point all we can do is wait for an official announcement. If E is correct, Arrested Development is coming to the big screen with at minimum all but one of the TV show’s cast intact.
