PS3 to Receive Blu-ray DTS-HD Audio Formats

Sony Computer Entertainment America has made the announcement we’ve been waiting for since last year.

The latest PS3 firmware update, version 2.30, will add DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio support. Playstation 3’s lack of DTS-HD support has been a sticking point for many prospective buyers seeking lossless audio for Blu-ray Disc movies. Not any more.

The update will also add access to the newly revamped Playstation store. Instead of having to browse downloads through an integrated online storefront, viewers will be able to access the store through an application running natively on their PS3. It should both look and function better than the current set-up.

We don’t know exactly which day the software update will become available, but Sony has confirmed it’s coming sometime next week. Much like the recent BD-Live update, you won’t want to miss this one.
