Patrick Duffy and Original Ewings Returning to ‘Dallas’

Patrick Duffy, Larry Hagman and Linda Gray are booking a return trip to the drama in ‘Dallas.’

The trio of actors who made Bobby Ewing, J.R. Ewing and Ewing’s wife Sue Ellen famous were all confirmed today as participating in TNT’s revival of ‘Dallas.’ They’ll return to those same roles made famous during the original show’s pioneering 1978-1991 run on CBS.

In the modernized ‘Dallas,’ Josh Henderson will play John Ross, the offspring of J.R. and Sue Ellen. He’ll be caught up in a power struggle with Christopher, the adopted son of Bobby and Pam, as well as involved in a love triangle with Christopher and the young and beautiful Elena (Jordana Brewster).

It’s unknown how much screen time Patrick, Larry and Linda will actually see versus their on-screen offspring. The younger cast will likely be at the forefront with the older generation providing supporting roles.

‘Dallas’ was once on its way to the big screen with Jennifer Lopez, John Travolta and Luke Wilson attached to star. Distributor Fox pulled the plug after their research determined the Dallas brand wasn’t resonating with younger audiences.

On TNT, ‘Dallas’ hopes to tap into the generation that once followed the show religiously by positioning it as a sequel rather than a reboot, as well as attract a new generation with a younger cast leading the way.

TNT has not provided a timetable on when production will begin or when the first episode is expected to air.
