This Tuesday, Warner Home Video will release Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD. It’s the type of film tailor made for the at-home high-def format, and that’s being reflected in its pre-order sales ahead of the release date.
As of as early as Saturday morning, Pacific Rim was not only sitting atop Amazon’s Blu-ray bestsellers sales chart, but it had occupied the top two spots. The Blu-ray and DVD combo version is in first, while the slightly more expensive Blu-ray 3D combo pack is in second.
The star of Pacific Rim, Charlie Hunnam, was back in the news yesterday when he backed out of the starring role in Fifty Shades of Grey. The added publicity of Hunnam’s name being all over the news certainly didn’t hurt Pacific Rim’s sales. In fact, it likely offered a small boost to them as well as Sons of Anarchy.
