With Zac Efron deciding against starring in Footloose as to shake the “teen dancing sensation” label, Paramount was forced to find a new up-and-coming star for the remake.
They may have found the right man for the job in Chace Crawford who, per an announcement by Paramount, is officially on board to play fast talking and fast footed Ren McCormack.
Chace hales from Gossip Girl fame where he has built up a strong following of 20-something females. Zac’s following skewed towards teenagers which would not have fit the edgier tone Paramount has hinted Footloose will explore.
Kenny Ortega, the man behind the moves in Dirty Dancing and all the High School Musical films, is set to produce and direct Footloose. Shooting will commence in March 2010 for an expected 2011 release.
