Along with a Wii U price drop, Nintendo is taking aim at cost conscious shoppers this holiday season with the introduction of the Nintendo 2DS.
As its name implies, the 2DS is essentially a 3DS (regular, not XL size) without the 3D component or clam shell case. By removing the 3D feature yet still allowing all 3DS games to be played in fixed 2D, Nintendo is able to offer the 2DS for $129.99. There’s no better gaming hardware/software option available this holiday season for young ones at that price point, tablets included (excluding purely educational games).
Nintendo will begin selling the 2DS on October 12, the same day Pokemon X and Pokemon Y will be released, in red and blue colors. The 2DS will play those games in 2D as well as all DS games as well, maintaining the backward compatibility that the 3DS currently enjoys. A $12.99 carry case in red and blue will also be available at launch.
Ordering links for Nintendo 2DS will be added when they are available.
