USA Today has published a set report and 10 new pictures from Warner’s upcoming Sherlock Holmes film that shed light on how director Guy Ritchie and his cast including Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes, Jude Law as Dr. John Watson, and Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler are reinventing the detective series.
Author Susan Wloszczyna’s article is quite lengthy and equally informative in breaking down some of the film’s elemental structure as defined by Guy Ritchie. You can check out the piece in its entirety right here.
This new Sherlock Holmes will be more action packed than any previous adaptation, a challenge Downey Jr. and Law are more than up for. In addition to having to partake in hand-to-hand combat, the duo are also quick to add their own magic touch to the scripted dialogue.
“After 73 days of shooting what Warner Bros. hopes is not only a holiday blockbuster but the launch of a franchise, the actors are comfortable enough in their personas that improvising in character is a breeze. ‘Initially, we were just infusing the dialogue with Doyle-isms,’ says Downey, who dons a jaunty fedora and oft-disheveled attire in a break from more conservative portraits of the gumshoe. Law, a rather trim Watson who is more of a brawler than a bumbler, kept a notebook handy with scribbled phrases from the original tales just in case.”
