At the annual retail and publisher conference Destination PlayStation just down the road from TMR, Sony Computer Entertainment America announced a number of exciting Playstation 3 product updates.
First, the studio confirmed a late second quarter arrival for PS3 exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Simultaneously, a starter pack will be made available for download for access to only the multiplayer components that support up to 16 players.
Those overly eager to try out Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be able to secure a spot in an online multiplayer beta scheduled for late April by pre-ordering the full game in a national program scheduled to kick off shortly.
April will also see the arrival of the much anticipated DualShock 3 controller. It won’t be cheap at $54.99, but it will keep all the features of the SIXAXIS controller with the added benefit of rumble.
Another way to get the DualShock 3 will come about around the same time Metal Gear Solid 4 is available via an all-new console bundle. For $499, you’ll be able to pick up an 80GB Playstation 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, a DualShock 3 controller, and of course a built-in Blu-ray Disc player. Considering the 40GB model currently sells for $399 that’s a pretty good deal.
