HBO premiered new one-minute teaser promotional spots for Game of Thrones: Season 2 and True Blood: Season 5 ahead of the Luck series premiere last night. As you’ll find out below, one of them is worth watching over and over again. The other is nothing more than a tease and utterly forgettable.
Starting with the good, the Game of Thrones teaser is all new footage. Varys (Conleth Hill) starts with a voiceover directing some chilling words of what’s to come to “someone.” About halfway through the spot we see who that someone is: Tyrion (Peter Dinklage), and he’s ready to “play the game.”
We also see the little prick King Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) pointing a crossbow at someone he shouldn’t. Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), Arya (Maisie Williams) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) make appearances as well.
True Blood: Season 5 isn’t due to arrive until more than two months after Game of Thrones: Season 2. In that sense it is forgivable that HBO doesn’t have much to offer as of yet other than some fancy graphics.
What they did offer is a simple teaser that nothing stays buried in Bon Temps forever. This statement likely refers not only to recently excavated Russell Edgington, but recently whacked Debbie Pelt as well. Sookie had best watch her back… and front.
