NBC executives have decided to pass on taking David E. Kelley’s Wonder Woman remake pilot to series, effectively squashing what could have been Adrianne Palicki’s breakout role as the superhero warrior.
Kelley’s modern take on the Amazonian princess Diana Prince had her running a major corporation by day and kicking butts in the streets of Los Angeles by night. Palicki’s nemesis, the jealous CEO of a rival company, would have been played by Elizabeth Hurley.
Publicity trouble struck the Wonder Woman pilot production early on when photos of Palicki in the new costume were released online. People were taken aback by the lack of patriotism and “cheap” material, not to mention the long pants and boots that blended into them. Alterations were made to the outfit when on-set footage and images leaked online, but by then the damage had already been done.
Word is that test screenings of the Wonder Woman pilot were received with mixed to negative reviews. If NBC passed on Wonder Woman, odds aren’t favorable another will step in and gamble on it. Though Wonder Woman seems like it would be a better fit for Syfy were growing female audiences attracted by shows like Warehouse 13 might latch onto the idea of two powerful women battling one another.
NBC also left behind the hairstylist drama Mann’s World, Ron Moore’s magic-infused cop drama that reunited several Battlestar Galactica alumni 17th Precinct, and the Civil War-era Reconstruction.
