Consumers have shown Microsoft enough Xbox 360 Kinect love through pre-sales that the new hands-free gaming accessory’s quarterly sales forecast has been jacked up 60%. The bump is not hard to fathom considering the lines already building at retailers around the country in anticipation of tonight’s midnight Kinect launch.
Microsoft had originally expected 3 million Kinect accessories to sell this quarter. In an interview today as reported by Bloomberg, Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business president Don Mattrick upped the forecast to a whopping 5 million units. With this any doubts that Kinect would not be “the” electronics gift for this holiday season are effectively erased.
Sony has forecast 5 million units of its Move motion control accessory for PS3 to sell through by the end of March, 2011. Kinect could very well be past the 10 million units sold mark by that time.
