Microsoft Announces 512MB Memory Unit; Still No Larger Hard Drive

Microsoft announced a new 512MB Memory Unit will be available April 3 for $49.99 at the Game Developers Conference, fueling increased speculation of if/when a larger hard drive will make it into our homes. The existing 64MB Memory Unit will see ten dollars shaved off its MSRP when it simultaneously drops from $39.99 to $29.99.

The larger Memory Unit will be better equipped to handle the, as of today, larger Xbox Live Arcade games. Previously developers were forced to keep their XBL games under 50MB, but now they’ve been given three times more space to work with at 150MB. Some upcoming games taking advantage of the increased cap inlclude Boom Boom Rocket (EA), Wing Commander Arena (EA), 3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures (Sierra Online), Eets: Chowdown (Klei Entertainment), Jetpac Refuelled (Rare), and Pinball FX (ZEN Studios).
