Update (July 13, 2012): Marvel has released images of each disc sleeve that will appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled Blu-ray collection, as drawn by artist Matthew Ferguson. You can view a high resolution version of each sleeve at the end of this article by clicking on the smaller version.
Original article (July 12, 2012): A first look inside the briefcase that houses the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled Blu-ray collection is here. Prepare to be blown away and ready to upgrade all your previously released films in The Avengers series on Blu-ray.
The case for the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled Blu-ray collection resembles the briefcase that Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) kept the Tesseract in after it was retrieved from the Atlantic Ocean by Tony Stark’s father. When opened, it literally has a glowing Tesseract inside (click the image below for a high-res look). It should be on full display at the San Diego Comic-Con beginning tomorrow.
We have already known the Blu-ray Disc contents of this set for some time. It will include The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor 3D, Captain America: The First Avenger 3D and The Avengers 3D, all together totaling 10 discs worth of Avengers-related material.
What we didn’t know is that the final disc is exclusive to the set and will include “never before seen, classified information.” I expect some hints as to where Phase 2 is headed based on these materials. Fingers crossed.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled Blu-ray collection release date is September 25.
