Today Nintendo formally announced Mario Kart 7 will bring the venerable racing franchise to 3DS for the first time on December 4, 2011.
Mario Kart 7 first debuted at E3 this past June and was playable on the show floor. It’s an entirely new entry in the series that adds the ability to glide, drive under water, customize rides, or optionally play as a Mii character. Players will also be able to switch to a first-person perspective, another new franchise edition.
New courses will also appear, including some on Wuhu Island and the jungles of Donkey Kong Country Returns, as well as updated versions of some old favorites. It wouldn’t be a Mario Kart game without some old favorites to cruise.
Mario Kart 7 will support up to 8 players via local wireless or broadband connections.
