L.A. Noire Gold Film Reels Locations Guide

Rockstar’s L.A. Noire is full of collectible goodies that make an already great game even better. Perhaps the most prominent hidden collectible are 50 Gold Film Reels canisters scattered amongst the game’s four main areas.

Some of the L.A. Noire Gold Film Reels will be stumbled upon naturally through the course of playing the game. Many others are tucked away in nooks and crannies. Finding these hidden Gold Film Reels may require a lot of extra exploring or a little help to locate.

The following guide will walk you through how to find all 50 Gold Film Reels in L.A. Noire in the shortest amount of time possible. Right after the guide are four YouTube videos that will show you exactly what the guide is talking about. Collect all 50 Gold Film Reels and you’ll earn an Achievement in the Xbox 360 version and a Trophy in the Playstation 3 version.

Hollywood

1. The Big Sleep Golden Film Reel – Located under a water tower at the west end of Hollywood Blvd. The Big Sleep Golden Film Reel is easy to spot as there is a trolley track that circles the tower it resides under.

2. Nightmare Alley Golden Film Reel – You will need to find the shopping center near the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Ivar Avenue. Just to the left of this center is a huge billboard for “Capt’n Saltee Potato Chips” with three dumpsters underneath it. Follow the dumpsters along to the right to spot the Nightmare Alley Golden Film Reel on the other side of the railing..

3. Brute Force Golden Film Reel – Find the football field located at the end of a street that offshoots from Scrader Blvd. in a residential area. The Brute Force Golden Film Reel is on the sidewalk right in front of where you would walk down to the field.

4. The Letter Golden Film Reel – Go to the intersection of Selma Avenue and Las Palmas Avenue, then walk one block east. You’ll find a little side street with red brick rather than pavement. Spot the first set of stairs on the left and find The Letter Golden Film Reel at the top of the staircase after curling around to the right.

5. Gilda Golden Film Reel – Next you will go to the intersection of Cahuenga Boulevard and De Longpre Avenue. Spot the gas station and immediately walk around behind it. The Gilda Golden Film Reel is just to the left of the lone dumpster right on the back of the gas station.

6. Where The Sidewalk Ends Golden Film Reel – Locate the movie theater on Sunset Avenue between Argyle Avenue and El Centro Avenue that has The Lady From Shanghai and The Big Sleep on the marquee. Walk toward the front doors and find the Where The Sidewalk Ends Golden Film Reel just behind the center column that obstructs its view from the sidewalk and road.

7. In A Lonely Place Golden Film Reel – Find the putt-putt golf course at the corner of El Centro Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard. Walk to the 8th hole which is shaped like a ping pong paddle. The In A Lonely Place Golden Film Reel is located right next to the hole.

8. Sunset Boulevard Golden Film Reel – Head about a block east from the far west end of Melrose Avenue. If facing west you’ll find a little courtyard between two buildings. The Sunset Boulevard Golden Film Reel is right in front of a tree in the middle of the courtyard.

9. The Women In The Window Golden Film Reel – Star at the corner of Wilton Place and Lemongrove. To the south and just west are a series of what look like duplexes. Go behind them and find the The Women In The Window Golden Film Reel sitting on a picnic table.

10. The Spiral Staircase Golden Film Reel – Go just east of the corner of Wilton Place and Santa Monica Avenue. On the north side is a playground with a slide and swings. In front of the swings and close to the road is a bird bath. The Spiral Staircase Golden Film Reel sits in front of the bird bath.

11. Odd Man Out Golden Film Reel – On the far east end of the map, move to the corner of Sunset Blvd. and St. Andrews Place. One block south is a small residential street with lots of parking in front of homes. Run to the end of the street and then behind the dark green house on the left. The Odd Man Out Golden Film Reel is sitting on this house’s porch.

12. The Night Of The Hunter Golden Film Reel – Go to Fountain Avenue and head toward the eastern end until you find the Hillside Motel on the left. Run to the back of the motel and find the The Night Of The Hunter Golden Film Reel sitting on one of the pool’s corners.

Willshire

13. The Narrow Margin Golden Film Reel – Go the middle of Hobart Boulevard and look for an unnamed intersection. On the north end of the street is a large house with a detached gray two-car garage. Run behind the house, to the right of the pool, and find the Narrow Margin Golden Film Reel at the base of a fountain.

14. White Heat Golden Film Reel – This one is a little trickier. Head to the middle of Mariposa Avenue, directly east on the map where you would line up with Lemongrove Avenue if it didn’t end. There are apartment buildings there with green first floors. Find the stairs to the second level near a curved window. Hang a left at the top of the stairs and find the White Heat Golden Film Reel at the end of the walkway.

15. Thieves’ Highway Golden Film Reel – Start on Rosewood Avenue, directly between where that street intersects with Kingsly Drive and Harvard Avenue. Enter the drive-in restaurant door and the Thieves’ Highway Golden Film Reel is on the counter, toward the middle where the cash register sits.

16. Crossfire Golden Film Reel – This time, start on Heliotrobe Drive just south of the intersection with Melrose Avenue. Spot the Cola King billboard, run under it, and find the Crossfire Golden Film Reel on the pavement near where some trailers are parked and attached to the back of a building.

17. M Golden Film Reel – From the intersection of Rosewood Avenue and Berendo Street, run down the side street with wooden fences on either side and distressed pavement. On the right is a three-story yellow building with green trim. The house just past this building has a see-saw in its backyard. The M Golden Film Reel is under the see-saw.

18. The Killers Golden Film Reel – Head to 1st Street where numerous homes are under construction. The Killers Golden Film Reel is inside one of the homes that borders directly on 1st Street.

19. The Set-Up Golden Film Reel – Start at the intersection of Berendo Street and 6th Street. There’s a yellow house with blue trim and a red house next to one another. Run down the walkway between the homes and find the Set-Up Golden Film Reel on the back porch of the yellow home.

20. The Lady From Shanghai Golden Film Reel – Go to where Council Street ends into 1st Street. There’s a baseball field there, and The Lady From Shanghai Golden Film Reel awaits perched on the pitcher’s mound.

21. Laura Golden Film Reel – Take Second Street from Vermont Avenue and then hang a left on the only street that appears before Second Street curls to the right. Follow this street until it curls to the right, and then look for a small alley between a brown and white fence on the left. At the end of this alley is a park, and the Laura Golden Film Reel sits on a picnic table just past the playground equipment.

22. The Third Man Golden Film Reel – Toward the eastern end of Beverly Boulevard, right before it curves to the right, and run alongside the large red brick building. Jump the fence in the back, then follow the winding dirt path until you see The Third Man Golden Film Reel under a tree.

23. The Killing Golden Film Reel – At the corner of Hoover Street and 6th Street is a big church. Enter the front courtyard area of the church just in front of the entrance, and find The Killing Golden Film Reel toward the left against the church.

24. Shadow Of A Doubt Golden Film Reel – Head toward the end of Coronado Street and hang a left down the road bordered by fences. Run down this road a ways until you see small airplane hangars ahead. Enter the hangar between two red airplanes and find the Shadow Of A Doubt Golden Film Reel in front of the plane inside the hangar.

Central West

25. Night And The City Golden Film Reel – At the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Alvarado Street is the lake below. Jump the barrier, run down to it and across the water (it only comes up to your waist) to the gazebo in the middle. The Night And The City Golden Film Reel is in the gazebo.

26. The Big Clock Golden Film Reel – Off of Grand View Street is a side street that weaves left and right. Follow this street to its end (drive it as it takes awhile) and run toward the white ranch house on the left. The Big Clock Golden Film Reel is sitting on the house’s front stoop.

27. Murder, My Sweet Golden Film Reel – Start at the intersection of 9th Street and Burlington Avenue. From there, head down the alley bordered by the fence and businesses on the right. When you enter a concrete clearing hang a right, find the steps going down into a parking area, and the Murder, My Sweet Golden Film Reel will be under a tree at the bottom of the steps.

28. The Naked City Golden Film Reel – From the intersection of Bonnie Brae Street and Beverly Boulevard, head south and spot a blue and white house with a porch on its north face. Follow the porch and find The Naked City Golden Film Reel at the porch’s far end.

29. Sweet Smell Of Success Golden Film Reel – At the corner of 3rd Street and Union are several small roads and a construction site with a big hole in the ground. On the other side of the hole is some construction equipment and the Sweet Smell Of Success Golden Film Reel is sitting amongst it.

30. Rififi Golden Film Reel – Start at the road just east of 6th Street and Witmer. Head north, then down the first alley to the left. There will be a light blue house with white trim that has the Rififi Golden Film Reel just to the right of its front door.

31. This Gun For Hire Golden Film Reel – Get on the Beverly Boulevard bridge just west of Glendale Boulevard. On the east end of the bridge, run through the broken fence and into a construction area. There’s a framed wooden structure that you can walk across. At the end of this structure is the This Gun For Hire Golden Film Reel.

32. Mildred Pierce Golden Film Reel – Drive into the train track tunnel at Beverly Boulevard and Lucas Avenue. About halfway down the tunnel, or 30ish seconds, is a small area off to the left. The Mildred Pierce Golden Film Reel is sitting on the ground just inside this area.

33. The Big Carnival Golden Film Reel – Starting from the corner of 9th Street and Figuroa Street, head down a small side street just to the west and you’ll see a gray house with bay windows on either side. Find the Big Carnival Golden Film Reel right between those windows.

34. Out Of The Past Golden Film Reel – Head to the most northern point of Hill Street and enter the trolley station. The Out Of The Past Golden Film Reel will be found on the pavement between a set of tracks.

Central East

35. Key Largo Golden Film Reel – On the eastern edge of the map, find the road that looks like a question mark and drive up it. Find a large farm shack on the right and the Key Largo Golden Film Reel on the left side of its porch.

36. Leave Her To Heaven Golden Film Reel – Just to the southeast of the question mark road from the previous Golden Film Reel is an intersection with a nasty pool you can access through a small open building. The Leave Her To Heaven Golden Film Reel is under a tree back behind the building next to the pool.

37. The Maltese Falcon Golden Film Reel – Get on Grand Avenue, about a block northeast of 1st Street. Find the “Bakers” sign and run behind the fence that is right behind that sign. The The Maltese Falcon Golden Film Reel is behind the fence.

38. The Big Heat Golden Film Reel – Stand at the intersection of 3rd Street and Hill Street and run up the hill and stairs alongside the train track that goes up the hill. At the hill’s top is a small station and The Big Heat Golden Film Reel is on the ground of this station.

39. Touch Of Evil Golden Film Reel – Start at the corner of Broadway and 6th Street and run behind the Los Angeles Theatre down a side alley. Climb up a pole and then two ladders to reach the roof. Find the Touch Of Evil Golden Film Reel at the far end of the roof.

40. The Asphalt Jungle Golden Film Reel – From 6th Street and Los Angeles Street, run up to the top of the train station. Find The Asphalt Jungle Golden Film Reel right as two tracks split at the end of the station.

41. Angels With Dirty Faces Golden Film Reel – Spot a big building under construction at the corner of Spring Street and 2nd Street. Climb up the ladder to the second floor, run around the building to the right and find the Angels With Dirty Faces Golden Film Reel inside a small shed.

42. Strangers Of A Train Golden Film Reel – Begin at the intersection of Main Street and 2nd Street. There’s a ticket booth at the entrance to a parking lot. Run along the building just behind the ticket booth, hang a left when the walkway ends and the Strangers Of A Train Golden Film Reel is just around the corner.

43. Pickup On South Street Golden Film Reel – Go to Union Station on Alameda Street. Enter the station and find the Pickup On South Street Golden Film Reel on the gift shop counter to the right side of the station interior.

44. House Of Bamboo Golden Film Reel – From the corner of Alameda Street and 1st Street, break through the “No Parking” fence gate and drive into the warehouse. Stop when you spot a staircase on either side and go up the one to the right. At the top, hang a right and grab the House Of Bamboo Golden Film Reel right before the catwalk turns left.

45. Scarlet Street Golden Film Reel – Begin at Alameda Street and Palmetto Street, run down Palmetto and make the first right into a parking area behind industrial buildings. There are two dumpsters hiding around a corner to the left and the Scarlet Street Golden Film Reel sits in front of them.

46. Detour Golden Film Reel – Stand at the corner of Alameda Street and Bay Street and run toward the train station. There are two red train cars, and the Detour Golden Film Reel is hiding between them.

47. Gun Crazy Golden Film Reel – Get on 1st Street and go as east until you spot a “K” gas station right before the end of the street. Run behind the gas station, across the train tracks and spot the Gun Crazy Golden Film Reel next to a water tower that has a large pipe sticking into the ground.

48. Body And Soul Golden Film Reel – From 7th Street and Santa Fe, go down under the bridge that crosses the Los Angeles River. There’s a doorway into the bridge column with stairs that you follow to the top. Come out in a parking garage with homeless people and find the Body And Soul Golden Film Reel about halfway down on the far right side.

49. Double Indemnity Golden Film Reel – Get on 7th Street and take it east until it ends into a road that borders the left side of the map. Go south on that road and break through the red and white gate on the right into a military base. Run behind the first building on the left and find the firing range. The Double Indemnity Golden Film Reel is on one of about 10 wooden tables at the range.

50. Notorious Golden Film Reel – Instead of going all the way to the end of 7th Street, do the same on Olympic Boulevard. Go south on the same unnamed border road and go south until you can hang a right down a dirt road. Drive down the road until you reach a large open warehouse with lumber in it. Find the warehouse office on the left side and the Notorious Golden Film Reel on the floor in the office.
