Kristin Kreuk may have left Lana Lang, Superman and Smallville behind, but she’s set to make a dramatic return to the CW in Beauty and the Beast.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, 29-year old Kreuk will headline CW’s reinvention of the 1980s television series that starred Linda Hamilton, also called Beauty and the Beast, returning her to the network where she spent 10 years playing Lana Lang in the Superman-themed Smallville series. This will be Kreuk’s first return to a lead recurring television series role since Smallville, though she did hold a small role in Chuck for several episodes, and also appeared in the television miniseries Ben Hur.
Kreuk joins Austin Basis who has also joined the CW Beauty and the Beast project as a regular, possibly as the Beast himself.
The new Beauty and the Beast pilot is being called a “modern-day love story with a procedural twist.” Kreuk will play Katherine, a tough-as-nails NYPD homicide detective. The Beast is Vincent Koslow, a man who survived a military experiment gone wrong that has turned his physical appearance into the “Beast.” Brothers & Sisters producers and writers Jennifer Levin and Sherri Cooper penned the pilot and will also serve as producers on the potential new series.
Production on the Beauty and the Beast pilot with Kristin Kreuk in the lead is expected to begin this spring.
