Microsoft’s Kinect for Xbox 360 may be near impossible to find in stores or online but that doesn’t mean units aren’t moving out the door.
Today Microsoft announced over 2.5 million Kinect sensors have sold worldwide in 38 countries since its launch 25 days ago, bolstered by strong demand thanks to Black Friday shoppers. This number includes standalone Kinect sensors as well as Kinect bundled with various Xbox 360 consoles. Sales were especially strong at Target where Microsoft promises to consistency refresh their stock.
Microsoft had forecast a goal to reach 5 million Kinect sales by year’s end. If they can keep manufacturing sensors and selling them at the current clip, the 5 million sales mark will be achieved roughly a week before Christmas.
