EW’s Michael Ausiello is exclusively dishing that Julia Stiles is in “advanced talks” to play a new major character in the fifth season of showtime’s Dexter. This news comes on the heels of Ausiello confirming Julie Benz would somehow (still a mystery) reprise her role as Dexter’s now deceased wife.
The only thing Ausiello offers about Stiles’ potential role is that she will not play a season-long serial killer as John Lithgow did. In fact, the season will feature no such character as Dexter will have to face and conquer other forces.
The question remains, who will Stiles play? Based on the comparison picture below with Stiles and Benz that draws out their similarities, I am almost entirely convinced that Stiles will show up as Rita’s sister to mourn her death. Her presence could ignite issues for Dexter in a number of ways including wanting to take custody of the kids, snooping in Dexter’s business or taking a more than personal interest in him.
For Stiles, this would be her first major acting role since The Omen remake (seems like ages ago) and first starring television role ever. Not a bad start if she manages to come out of negotiations with an inked deal.
