Judd Apatow has a lot to celebrate this week. His third directorial effort, Funny People, is on the cusp of hitting theaters. And now Variety is reporting several more directing gigs are a done deal.
Universal has wrapped up Apatow’s directing talents in a new three film deal that will keep the funnyman in-house, so to speak, for the foreseeable future. Though Apatow has produced films at multiple studios, his first two films, The 40 Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up, and Funny People are all Universal property.
The first film in the new deal is expected to be penned by Apatow shortly after Funny People releases on Friday. The success of Funny People may determine how much drama over comedy makes it into his next script.
