The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and its ‘The Shivering Isles’ expansion are arguably the most acclaimed and, face it, addictive action/rpgs ever to appear on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Since Oblivion’s release, publisher Bethesda Softworks has been focused on Fallout having released two consecutive successful entries in that ongoing series.
Even though Bethesda has the first-person shooter Brink coming up next, a report from Eurogamer Denmark claims a source tells them that The Elder Scrolls V (or 5) is in the works, will be a direct sequel to Oblivion and is already far enough along that voice actor casting is about to get underway. If this report is correct, we could be seeing the first footage from the game as early as next spring and possibly see the actual game on store shelves next fall.
Corroborating this report is a leak back in August suggesting Bethesda had dedicated 90 developers to a top secret project that has been underway for nearly two years. If Bethesda is far enough along to be casting voice actors for what should be an ambitious and massive project, they would have had to be working on it for about that amount of time.
The next move is in Bethesda’s hands. They could opt to ignore this leak and stick to their own announcement time table or try to build momentum and break their silence early. We’ll find out one way or another in the coming weeks and months.
