Bat fans are in an uproar right now and I can’t blame them. Shortly after Warner Home Video announced a lavish box set including the four 1980s-90s Batman films on Blu-ray, retailers began pulling the title from their sites and now there’s no sign of it anywhere. Is there trouble at Wayne Manor?
Speculation is rampant that Warner has postponed this set indefinitely. But as you should know by now, speculation is just that: speculation. It is by no means a definitive word.
To find out what’s really going on we went straight to the one outfit that has the answer we all seek: Warner Brothers. And they responded with this cryptic message:
“All information about this title is embargoed until Feb. 24.”
What does this tell us? Well unfortunately its not the definitive answer but could be promising when dissected in business terms. Allow me to *speculate*.
The fact that Warner has a defined date in which they are willing to discuss the Batman Anthology tells me the title is still a go for a March 10 release. February 24 is likely the date retailers will be allowed to begin taking orders again and the title will re-appear on that date at Amazon.com, DVDEmpire, etc. It is proof of a move by all studios to reduce the pre-announce window for titles, which has been upwards of three months plus, and minimize the number of cancellations and competitors’ ability to piggyback another studios releases with their own that share a similarity.
Of course, this is pure speculation on my behalf. There’s that word again, right? At least you know to check back here on February 24 to once and for all learn of Batman Anthology’s Blu-ray Disc fate.
