Robert Downey Jr. showcases his acting chops in a new clip from Marvel and Disney’s upcoming surefire mega blockbuster Iron Man 3.
The clip builds upon a scene sampled in the various trailer and TV spots in which Tony Stark (Downey Jr.) reveals to Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) that he’s been having a tough time since the New York showdown against alien invaders in the climax of The Avengers. He can’t sleep knowing there are aliens and gods out there that could harm Pepper, and spends his nights tinkering in his workshop instead.
Tony goes on to tell Pepper that the suits are a part of him and then breaks down into Pepper’s arms when he tells her that she’s the one thing he cannot live without.
Both Downey Jr. and Paltrow earn their acting stripes in this scene, as does director Shane Black for the performances he gets out of his actors in a dramatic scene shot in front of a wall of robotic suits.
Iron Man 3 is geared up for a potentially mammoth opening north of $160 million when it arrives here in North America on May 3.
