An Angelina Jolie appearance at Comic-Con did not generate enough hype to push her new action flick Salt past the incumbent champion Inception at the box office on Friday.
Salt’s $12.5 million opening day is nothing to sneeze at, especially considering Jolie has been absent from a starring live-action role for two years. The film should reach around $30 to $35 million through the weekend.
Inception’s $13.2 million was better though, more great news for the Christopher Nolan powerhouse which crossed the $100 million mark yesterday. It stands a legitimate chance of hitting $40 million through Sunday and should top $200 million domestically when its theatrical run is all said and done.
