In Living Color Returning to Fox with Keenen Ivory Wayans Hosting

In Living Color Returning to Fox with Keenen Ivory Wayans HostingIn Living Color is returning to Fox in 2012 with its original mastermind, Keenen Ivory Wayans, stepping in to host and executive produce.

Fox ordered two half-hour specials of In Living Color that will air midseason as part of the network’s 25th anniversary celebration. If they perform well in the ratings, there’s an option for it to become a series again in 2012-2013.

In Living Color originally debuted midseason in 1990 and took television by storm with its nearly all-black comedic cast, dance routines by the Fly Girls, and improvisation. The list of careers it launched is impressive including Keenan, his siblings Kim, Damon, Shawn and Marlon; Jamie Foxx, Jim Carrey, and David Alan Grier. Hip-hop dancing her way to stardom as one of the fly girls was none other than Jennifer Lopez.

Young comics and dancers are probably salivating at the opportunity to appear on the show; that is, if Keenan and his team keep the same format. Details about how the new version will be handled have yet to be revealed.

Keenan left In Living Color after its third season due to clashes with the network over censorship, though he stayed on board to executive produce. The show ended its run after five seasons in May, 1994.

With MTV bringing back Beavis and Butt-Head this past week and now In Living Color returning next year, the 1990s seems to be making a television comeback.
